Hello, I'm CHIAKI, a calligraphy artist/designer - the founder of sumi works based in Copenhagen, from New York and Tokyo. After a career as a media designer in New York, I returned to my artistic roots by immersing myself into the world of calligraphy in Copenhagen. Here, I have reconnected with the traditional Japanese art of calligraphy, exploring the medium and immerse myself in the timeless art of calligraphy here in Copenhagen.  This led me to reconnect and explore the rich traditions of Japanese calligraphy, and an expressive art form that is not just about beautiful writing; it’s rich with deep philosophical meaning and cultural history. As a creator, my mission is to breathe new life into this ancient craft, honoring its legacy while making it accessible and relevant in today’s world. I draw inspiration from the beauty of words, the intricacies of nature, and the harmonious blend of Japan-Nordic aesthetics to craft a fresh approach that bridges the gap between tradition and contemporary artistry. I have worked with international brands such as Louis Vuitton, CHANEL, Motorola, MUJI, Uniqlo, among others.   Additionally, I have collaborated with institutions such as Copenhagen University, local schools, and festivals like the Copenhagen Sakura Festival and Kulturenatten.
