About the Experience

Level: suitable for all levels

Type: workshop

Using a jigsaw technique, you will carve a single block and cut it into separate sections. The separate sections can then be inked in different colours and re-assembled, so that multiple colours can be printed in one go. Over the course of 3 and a half hours, you will delve into the art of carving and printing to create unique and personalised linocut prints. The workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to linoprinting techniques, from design conception to the final print. There will be examples and references on hand for inspiration, but you can also come with your own sketches. The linoleum block size that will be used for printing is 10 cm x 15 cm, so make sure your design fits within that size. Don't feel confident in drawing? No worries! You can use reference images and trace your chosen design. I can guarantee you will leave feeling like an accomplished artist, no matter your creative level. What you will learn: - Understand how to create a simple two-coloured print from one block - Develop a clear understanding of the steps needed to plan, design and carve a print - Carve a single block print from a reference image or by drawing directly onto the block - Hand burnish or press a print using soft lino blocks and water-based inks. - Take home a print that you can frame or give as a gift Practical: There will be some reference material available but it’s recommend that you come with some images (sketches, photos from magazines or print-outs) that you would like to work from. The block size that you will work with is 10cm x 15cm. We will be printing on A4 and A5 paper. We will be using water-based ink, but it is worth wearing suitable clothing that you don't mind getting a little messy.
