About the Experience

Level: beginner

Type: workshop

Cyanotype printing is a photographic process, invented in 1841, that uses iron-based chemicals, sunlight and water to create beautiful dark blue prints. It is easy, less toxic and less expensive than most other photographic print-making techniques and after the course, you will be able to do it at home too. By the end of this workshop you will walk home with 2 of your own original sun prints to decorate your walls. We will cover all the steps of the process including: - How to prepare the chemicals and paper. - Figuring out the right exposure for your print. - Making contact photograms, using plants etc. - Developing the print in water + tips on how to make it last. All necessary materials for 2 A4 prints are included in the price. There will be enough of the photographic solution for you to bring some home as well. You're welcome to bring your own paper too - extra paper will be available at a small cost, if you want to make more. The workshop will take between 2-3 hours, as the exposure time will vary depending on the weather. You don't need to have any previous experience, anyone can participate. Kids (10 years old+) are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Unfortunately the venue is not wheelchair-friendly.
